Cats are amazing. Abby doesn't meow for pettings but she will rear up on her hind legs and pat my arm until I start petting her.
Things are going to be interesting for lady_black_cat after she adopts her first cat. My cats like her, so I don't think she'd believe me if I told her that they're actually on their best behavior when she's here.
